Imperial Beach 2009

For the past 5 years or so the week of the 4th of July my family always rents a condo at Imperial Beach. It's this little surfer town, with a pretty great beach, pier and my uncles, aunts and cousins from my mom's side all go.

Some highlights from our trip this year: me & Tom by surfhenge. The beach there has lots of sandollars, it feels exciting to find on the beach. If you can't find any shells you can always go to Bibbeys shell shop across the street where they have everything! Tom bought a blowfish, it's hanging out in the bathroom now until Tom has his pirate bar built.Me & Tom buried Diana in the sand as a mermaid, this took awhile . . . another day me & my mom carved a sandbunny. the week after we left the US Open Sandcastle Competition was there, so it must be the best sand around. While you're there you have to order a giant pizza from Seacoast pizza, my dad did not eat the whole thing. We went to Seaworld one day which was fun, saw the many shamus, rode Atlantis, and seeing the trained otters and chilean penguins is always the cutest part! If you look close you can see my mom, dad, matt & diana looking scared.

4th of July BBQ

The month of July is flying by! I can't believe it's already halfway. Anyways, I wanted to post some pictures from the BBQ, we had much fun. There was lot of food and swimming and a tiny bit of fireworks. I had just 6 sparklers left from my New Mexico-bought stash from a few years back. But we could see a firework show from the backyard so that was a bonus. Here's Sarah, Chris Wass, Kat and Ben making some sparkle. I also bought a pack of temporary tattoos and made everyone wear them with me. Andrew's step-daughter Leia is so cute, we put hers to match his tattoo :)Then there's me & Lori being so patriotic. And me & Chris Wass, I don't know why I'm being tough there, ha. It was also a sad night because we had to say goodbye to Lori, her & Chris Kolb (I'm using the last names since there were two Chris' there that night!) her hubby are moving to Pennsylvania. But she has a nice new job there so we're trying to be happy for them. That's the good-bye wave. On to a happier subject, underwater photos! Kat & Ben's digital camera can go underwater, so that is what they're doing in this action shot. And last but not least here's a picture of Sue making what I think is the coolest new dessert idea. It was like a chocolate quesadilla. She had chocolate tortillas from the Guadalupe market, then put marshmallows, chocolate chips, peanut butter and whatever else inside and grilled them. Quite great. Sorry no pictures of Tom, he did not approve of the ones of him, and we also had a bunch of other awesome guests, but they eluded my camera as well.

Knit-ffiti #2

This is at Imperial Beach, right off of Seacoast drive (you can see the ocean there). I know it's small but I was on vacation, I couldn't spend all my time knitting, I had to relax too you know!

On a sad note, the first knit-ffiti was taken down while we were out of town. My mother-in-law, being her paranoid self, said the neighbor kids were touching it so she unstitched it and put it inside. Weird right? I think I may need to find a new home for it in some public park or something so EVERYONE can touch it and she won't mind. Ha.

Me & Tom are off to see Moon otherwise I'd blog about our trip and 4th of July party, both which were great! later, later.

That's right, knitter graffiti

So I'm starting a knitter graffiti gang (or knit-fiti as I like to call it). Inspired by Knitta. You want to join my gang you say? Well you have to knit or crochet something, tag something public (a tree, telephone pole, statue) and think of a tagger name. I'm still working on my name . . . Anyways, this gang will definitely be a subdivision of the Phoenix United Crafters Society, my craft group with some of my favorite ladies!

This pole is right outside my house so if you're coming over today for my BBQ then you'll see it, happy 4th of July!

Opening 07/07/09 (that I have to miss)

Transfigure. Julie Anand and Damon Sauer (I don't know that this piece is in the show, it was just an image I found online)

So Tuesday from 7-9pm the Shemer Art Center is having an opening for their student show and also in the main gallery there will be an exhibit of Julie Anand and Damon Sauer's photography. I've had Julie as my professor in two classes, she's great. Their work is interesting, they take large photographs, shred them and weave them back together. Anyways, since I want to check this out, but I'll be out of town that day thought I would post it so other people can check it out!

p.s. want to know where I'm going? I'll be in Imperial Beach, CA from Monday to Wednesday for the annual McBride family beach trip. I'll be sure to take a picture of me & Tom by "surfhenge"
